Morning Meditations 11-22-2011

ESV

Psa 6:1  To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments; according to The Sheminith. A Psalm of David. O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath.
Psa 6:2  Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am languishing; heal me, O LORD, for my bones are troubled.
Psa 6:3  My soul also is greatly troubled. But you, O LORD--how long?
Psa 6:4  Turn, O LORD, deliver my life; save me for the sake of your steadfast love.
Psa 6:5  For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who will give you praise?
Psa 6:6  I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping.
Psa 6:7  My eye wastes away because of grief; it grows weak because of all my foes.
Psa 6:8  Depart from me, all you workers of evil, for the LORD has heard the sound of my weeping.
Psa 6:9  The LORD has heard my plea; the LORD accepts my prayer.
Psa 6:10  All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled; they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment.

Pro 27:1  Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.
Pro 27:2  Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.
Pro 27:3  A stone is heavy, and sand is weighty, but a fool's provocation is heavier than both.
Pro 27:4  Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?
Pro 27:5  Better is open rebuke than hidden love.
Pro 27:6  Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.
Pro 27:7  One who is full loathes honey, but to one who is hungry everything bitter is sweet.
Pro 27:8  Like a bird that strays from its nest is a man who strays from his home.
Pro 27:9  Oil and perfume make the heart glad, and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel.
Pro 27:10  Do not forsake your friend and your father's friend, and do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity. Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away.
Pro 27:11  Be wise, my son, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him who reproaches me.
Pro 27:12  The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it.
Pro 27:13  Take a man's garment when he has put up security for a stranger, and hold it in pledge when he puts up security for an adulteress.
Pro 27:14  Whoever blesses his neighbor with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, will be counted as cursing.
Pro 27:15  A continual dripping on a rainy day and a quarrelsome wife are alike
Pro 27:16  to restrain her is to restrain the wind or to grasp oil in one's right hand.
Pro 27:17  Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.
Pro 27:18  Whoever tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who guards his master will be honored.
Pro 27:19  As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man.
Pro 27:20  Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied, and never satisfied are the eyes of man.
Pro 27:21  The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and a man is tested by his praise.
Pro 27:22  Crush a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with crushed grain, yet his folly will not depart from him.
Pro 27:23  Know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds,
Pro 27:24  for riches do not last forever; and does a crown endure to all generations?
Pro 27:25  When the grass is gone and the new growth appears and the vegetation of the mountains is gathered,
Pro 27:26  the lambs will provide your clothing, and the goats the price of a field.
Pro 27:27  There will be enough goats' milk for your food, for the food of your household and maintenance for your girls.

Joel 2:1  Blow a trumpet in Zion; sound an alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming; it is near,
Joe 2:2  a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness! Like blackness there is spread upon the mountains a great and powerful people; their like has never been before, nor will be again after them through the years of all generations.
Joe 2:3  Fire devours before them, and behind them a flame burns. The land is like the garden of Eden before them, but behind them a desolate wilderness, and nothing escapes them.
Joe 2:4  Their appearance is like the appearance of horses, and like war horses they run.
Joe 2:5  As with the rumbling of chariots, they leap on the tops of the mountains, like the crackling of a flame of fire devouring the stubble, like a powerful army drawn up for battle.
Joe 2:6  Before them peoples are in anguish; all faces grow pale.
Joe 2:7  Like warriors they charge; like soldiers they scale the wall. They march each on his way; they do not swerve from their paths.
Joe 2:8  They do not jostle one another; each marches in his path; they burst through the weapons and are not halted.
Joe 2:9  They leap upon the city, they run upon the walls, they climb up into the houses, they enter through the windows like a thief.
Joe 2:10  The earth quakes before them; the heavens tremble. The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining.
Joe 2:11  The LORD utters his voice before his army, for his camp is exceedingly great; he who executes his word is powerful. For the day of the LORD is great and very awesome; who can endure it?
Joe 2:12  "Yet even now," declares the LORD, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning;
Joe 2:13  and rend your hearts and not your garments." Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.
Joe 2:14  Who knows whether he will not turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, a grain offering and a drink offering for the LORD your God?
Joe 2:15  Blow the trumpet in Zion; consecrate a fast; call a solemn assembly;
Joe 2:16  gather the people. Consecrate the congregation; assemble the elders; gather the children, even nursing infants. Let the bridegroom leave his room, and the bride her chamber.
Joe 2:17  Between the vestibule and the altar let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep and say, "Spare your people, O LORD, and make not your heritage a reproach, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, 'Where is their God?'"
Joe 2:18  Then the LORD became jealous for his land and had pity on his people.
Joe 2:19  The LORD answered and said to his people, "Behold, I am sending to you grain, wine, and oil, and you will be satisfied; and I will no more make you a reproach among the nations.
Joe 2:20  "I will remove the northerner far from you, and drive him into a parched and desolate land, his vanguard into the eastern sea, and his rear guard into the western sea; the stench and foul smell of him will rise, for he has done great things.
Joe 2:21  "Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice, for the LORD has done great things!
Joe 2:22  Fear not, you beasts of the field, for the pastures of the wilderness are green; the tree bears its fruit; the fig tree and vine give their full yield.
Joe 2:23  "Be glad, O children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given the early rain for your vindication; he has poured down for you abundant rain, the early and the latter rain, as before.
Joe 2:24  "The threshing floors shall be full of grain; the vats shall overflow with wine and oil.
Joe 2:25  I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you.
Joe 2:26  "You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame.
Joe 2:27  You shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God and there is none else. And my people shall never again be put to shame.
Joe 2:28  "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.
Joe 2:29  Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit.
Joe 2:30  "And I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke.
Joe 2:31  The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes.
Joe 2:32  And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the LORD has said, and among the survivors shall be those whom the LORD calls.

Mat 5:1  Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.
Mat 5:2  And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:
Mat 5:3  "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:4  "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Mat 5:5  "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Mat 5:6  "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Mat 5:7  "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Mat 5:8  "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Mat 5:9  "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Mat 5:10  "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:11  "Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
Mat 5:12  Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Mat 5:13  "You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.
Mat 5:14  "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Mat 5:15  Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.
Mat 5:16  In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Mat 5:17  "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
Mat 5:18  For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
Mat 5:19  Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:20  For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:21  "You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.'
Mat 5:22  But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, 'You fool!' will be liable to the hell of fire.
Mat 5:23  So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,
Mat 5:24  leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
Mat 5:25  Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison.
Mat 5:26  Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.
Mat 5:27  "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.'
Mat 5:28  But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Mat 5:29  If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell.
Mat 5:30  And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.
Mat 5:31  "It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.'
Mat 5:32  But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
Mat 5:33  "Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.'
Mat 5:34  But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God,
Mat 5:35  or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
Mat 5:36  And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.
Mat 5:37  Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything more than this comes from evil.
Mat 5:38  "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.'
Mat 5:39  But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Mat 5:40  And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.
Mat 5:41  And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.
Mat 5:42  Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.
Mat 5:43  "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'
Mat 5:44  But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Mat 5:45  so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
Mat 5:46  For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
Mat 5:47  And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?
Mat 5:48  You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
